After upgrading to the Newest fall creaters update I’ve had several users who were using a synology NAS who were unable to open any file from their shared folders. After searching online for this issue I found the solution on the synology forums.
The easiest way to fix this issue is to update your synology NAS to the newest version this fixes the issue with the Directory name is invalid. The newest version can be downloaded through the NAS web page. Or you can donwload it manually from here : https://www.synology.com/nl-nl/support/download
To update it through the browser go to http://diskstation/ ( This only works if you did not rename your NAS )
Go to the Control Panel and choose Update & Restore.
Now check if there is an update available. For me the update that fixed the problem was version DSM 6.1.4
An alterative way to get this working is enabling SMB 1 on your computer. I do not recommened this because this is not secure at all and leaves your computer open to all kind of nasty stuff. This said I will show you how to do this.
on your computer type + then type appwiz.cpl now choose “Turn Windows features on or off”
Here you need to find “SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support” Expand it and enable the first 2 options ( See screenshot )
